Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law on 26th of July 1990. And it has improved accessibility for other countries too.

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA, opens in new window) is now 30 years old (signed into law on 26th of July 1990) and it is still a very important civil rights law that helps (web) accessibility and prohibits discrimination in all areas of public life, web included.

Web was not a crucial part of the ADA when it was signed, but it is a good thing that web became an important part of ADA too.

ADA is not just for USA in my opinion.

A lot of digital pioneers started in the states, so by acknowledging and adhering to ADA they actually improved accessibility for the rest of the world too!

It has for sure inspired many other governments to follow the same objectives of accessibility and was most certainly also one of drivers for the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (opens in new window) that was adopted 16 years later (13th of December 2006).

So again – happy birthday ADA and I hope you will help even more people in the future!
